About Me

Hi! I’m Makayla Oviedo, a 19-year-old college sophomore and artist with a passion for character design, illustration, animation, and visual storytelling.

I’ve always loved creating characters and finding ways to bring their personalities, emotions, and stories to life through art. A lot of my inspiration comes from the world around me, the stories and characters I connect with, and, of course, my own imagination. I especially enjoy experimenting with expressions, movement, personality, and character design while exploring new techniques and developing my own artistic style.

Art has also given me some amazing opportunities to learn and grow. I’ve completed two summer intensive programs at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where I was able to immerse myself in art, challenge myself creatively, and learn alongside other young artists who share my passion for animation and storytelling. Those experiences helped me become more confident in my work and even more excited about where I can take my art in the future.

I’m currently a student at the University of Southern California (USC), where I’m continuing my education while developing my portfolio and growing as both an artist and storyteller. When I’m not drawing or working on a new project, you can also find me performing as a member of the USC Spirit of Troy Marching Band. Being part of the band gives me another creative outlet and an opportunity to be part of an incredible community centered around music, teamwork, tradition, and Trojan spirit.

I also speak semi-fluent French and enjoy learning about different cultures and perspectives. I think experiencing the world beyond what I already know helps inspire creativity and gives me new ways of thinking about characters, stories, and the worlds they come from.

For me, being an artist is about more than creating something that looks good. It’s about expressing ideas, communicating emotion, telling meaningful stories, and creating characters and worlds that people can connect with.

This website is my space to share that journey. You’ll find finished illustrations, character designs, sketches, studies, and creative projects that show both where I am as an artist today and how my work continues to evolve.

I’m still learning, experimenting, and discovering the kind of artist I want to become—and I’m excited to see where that journey takes me.
